Oh my God, I’ve been running strides all wrong! Yes I am a runner, whatever that means. To me it means I ran in high school and I should know these things. I read Daniels’ book and it didn’t pop out to me how to do strides. I just assumed they were similar to the strides we ran in high school which were a long stretched jogs to loosen up. During a run on and off for about 25-50 yards. I knew I should have looked this up. Felt wrong. What I was doing was in the second third or 4th mile of an easy run just stretching out for the count of 25 on one leg, which for me is about a 50 yard run as each leg for me is 10 yards. And I would do this then jog a little and do another then jog a little. I wasn’t pushing too hard mostly working on stretching as long as I could.
Well this might’ve helped to loosen me up but it didn’t do what strides are supposed to do. I found this wonderful blog post that pretty much lays it out. Saltmarsh Running, Strides for Distance Runners.
So I’ve missed out, I should’ve been running these dashes at the end of my run with significant rest in between. I will do that now. That is all.
