Our Trip To Greece

We began our trip in Athens, Greece. We couldn’t see the Parthenon because it was closed - the workers were on strike. We had a nice dinner but it was mostly a drag. I need to go back with a good state of mind. Summer 1995

From there we went to Thessalonika where I met my father’s cousin Alexandra (Sandy) Charanis. Terrific time there visiting the archeological sites and amazing churches. It is truly a byzantine city.

There were archeological sites everywhere

Sandy took us to one of her favorite beaches.

Lemnos

The island where my father’s father was born. We stayed in Myrna - the big city where we ate fish, drank coffee and enjoyed the terrific local people. There was a museum - some of the oldest artifacts have been found there.

We then rented what appeared to be a carcar and drove to Atsiki - the village where the house is.

We met Nikos and Aristea - the neighbors and after many hours of animated conversation about nothing really because I have little Greek and they had no English - we saw the househousehousehousehousehouseyardnikoshousehousehouse, Nikos’ horse/mulemule and the church they worship in. Where my uncle Peter (Sandy’s dad) had made a donation - to get his name there on the wall).

Last Stop Santorini

Amazing view’s and people - stayed at the Hotel Lucas, where we met Lucas and ate great food. The room was small but we didn’t stay there much. Saw more archeology and then headed home!

Here is another article of someone who traced their roots back to this lovely island
